
Lymphoedema Treatment and TherapyWhat is Lymphoedema?Lymphoedema is a chronic swelling (oedema) usually in the arm(s) or leg(s). It can also occur in other parts of the body due to an accumulation of lymphatic fluid. The accumulation of the lymphatic fluid is usually due to a problem in the lymphatic system. Issues with the lymphatic system can be due to surgery, injuries, radiation therapy or genetics. A badly swollen limb may result in loss of mobility, discomfort and pain. Coping with everyday activities may become difficult and affect the quality do life. Treatment is available to assist to manage this condition. Treatments Available at RPPR for LymphoedemaLymphoedema can be managed and the swelling decreased by a program which may include a combination of specialised lymphatic massage, correct bandaging, compression garments, an exercise routine and skin care. This is known as Complex Lymphatic Therapy (CLT). Clinical treatment in aimed at reducing the swelling and educating the patient and family in these special skills so that the patient can control swelling. CLT treatment has a strong education component to teach clients and carers how to best manage their conditions. RPPR CLT treatment can occur at our Robina rooms, or in your own home if needed. Complex Lymphatic Therapy SubsidiesLymphoedema is classified as chronic condition, therefore you may be eligible for a treatment subsidy through Medicare.
