What is Occupational Therapy?

Occupational Therapy focuses on developing and maintaining people's skills to carry out their everyday life in areas such as work/school, self care, leisure and play.

Occupational therapists work with clients who may have temporary or permanent disruption to their lives caused through illness or disability.

Occupational Therapy Treatments Available at RPPR

Access & Home Safety

Provision of services to evaluate entering & moving around the home, including the ability to do daily tasks in a safe manner. This service can include recommendations of

• Minor home modifications (grab rails & ramps)
• Major home modifications (modification of bathroom to allow wheelchair access)
• Equipment to increase or maintain safety in the home.

Chronic Pain Management

Provision of bio-mechanical techniques, cognitive behavioural therapy and relaxation therapy for people with chronic pain.

Complex Lymphatic Therapy

Provision treatment for lymphoedema. This can include manual lymphatic drainage, prescription of medical compression garments, compression bandaging and advice on exercise and skin care. Client and family education is included, with referrals to support agencies where necessary.

Equipment Prescription

Service to enhance people’s independence in completing daily tasks in a safe manner. This service will assist with recommendations of equipment and completing applications to relevant organisations where necessary.

Occupational Rehabilitation

Provision of assessment and intervention to enable an injured worker to return to occupational tasks in an appropriate work setting. This can include worksite assessments and suitable duties plans, where necessary.

Seating

Provision of advice and modification of seating equipment for use in wheelchairs, commodes or other adaptive seating options.

Occupational Therapy treatment

Occupational Therapy treatment has a strong education component to teach clients and carers how to best manage their conditions.
RPPR Occupational Therapy treatment can occur at our Robina rooms, or in your own home if needed.

Occupational Therapy Subsidies

RPPR Occupational Therapy is covered for eligible DVA and Workcover clients. It is partly subsidised by most health care funds. If you have a chronic condition you may be eligible for a treatment subsidy through Medicare. This is called an Enhanced Primary Care Plan and needs to be arranged through your GP.

Cancellation Policy

In the event of a cancellation, 24 hours notice is required.  Please phone or text 24 hours prior to your appointment - 0450 468 944 (or 5562 2088 during office hours).  This way we can re-allocate your appointment and reschedule our staff. 
Emergency situations will be considered on a case by case basis and credit may be provided at our discretion.
